The organization of street traders in Hat Yai, southern Thailand: some policy implications for microbusiness development

  • B. J. Shaw and I. D. Murray (1989). Malaysian Journal of Tropical Geography, 43-49
  • Abstract: Past harassment of informal sector workers is giving way in many countries to attempts to understand and assist them. The paper describes the basic fieldwork for one such project in a growth centre in S Thailand, which aimed to delineate the spatial characteristics and modes of operation of street traders. It conclueds that although credit and capital availability appear to be the chief constraints, a wider system-based policy would be advantageous. -M.Amos
